Alphabet shareholders await results from the first of the Magnificent Seven stocks.
A Florida teen dropped his lawsuit on Wednesday against Meta Platforms, canceling a Los Angeles trial over claims the social media company's apps caused his depression and anxiety. The trial, which had been slated to begin on Monday, was expected to be the second trial in thousands of lawsuits that have been consolidated in California state court over claims social media companies designed their platforms to be addictive to children, spurring a youth mental health crisis. The lawsuit, brought by a 15-year-old boy known as R.K.C. who started using social media when he was 8, originally named four defendants: Google's YouTube, Meta's Instagram, Snap Inc's Snapchat and ByteDance's TikTok, but YouTube and TikTok settled in June.

U.S. hyperscalers are starting to show returns on their artificial intelligence investments, but the rising cost of the buildout is taking a bite out of their free cash flow, and investors are noticing. At their current trajectory, the so-called "hyperscalers" -- Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms and Oracle -- are expected to spend more combined on capital expenditures than they generate in free cash flow by 2027, according to a Reuters analysis of LSEG consensus estimates. The data shows the companies will generate about $340 billion more in annual operating cash flow in 2027 than in 2025, but capex is expected to rise by roughly $534 billion, equivalent to about $1.57 of additional investment for every $1 of additional cash flow.
