Intel’s stock remains strong today despite a report from The Information indicating that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is developing an "EMIB-like" advanced packaging technology, potentially challenging a key advantage for Intel’s Foundry business. However, the prospect of TSMC neutralizing this advantage hasn’t dented Intel’s share price, as the broader tech market is buoyed by massive AI spending commitments from companies like Microsoft and Meta. Here is why Intel’s stock is h

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, the world's largest contract chipmaker, said late on Tuesday it had begun gradually resuming operations at its Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM) plant in Japan's Kumamoto prefecture after a strong earthquake prompted the precautionary evacuation of workers. The company said all personnel at the Japan site were confirmed safe after being evacuated in accordance with internal safety procedures. JASM's construction site was unaffected, TSMC said, adding that parts of the construction work had been suspended as a safety precaution because there could still be occasional aftershocks.

TSMC just committed another $100 billion to U.S. chipmaking on the same day it posted record profit. Behind both moves is an AI chip demand it still can’t fully meet.
Intel's stock is surging while the rest of the chip sector sits flat, and the reasons behind that split tell a much bigger story about where the semiconductor race is actually headed.
Amkor Technology said on Thursday it had entered a multi-year agreement with Nvidia worth $1.5 billion to expand advanced semiconductor packaging and test capacity in the U.S., as the chip industry races to build out AI infrastructure. • Under the agreement, Nvidia will make a prepayment to support the expansion of Amkor's U.S. advanced packaging operations, including capacity in Arizona. • The companies will jointly develop packaging and testing technologies for Nvidia's AI and accelerated-computing platforms, focusing on combining different types of chips in a single package.

Contracts to supply computing power for artificial-intelligence calculations have become such a fixture of the craze that whole industries have begun reorganizing around them. AI suppliers say these arrangements give them unprecedented visibility into their future revenue, allowing them to wow investors with promises of bumper sales and profits ahead. Memory suppliers and their customers have sought out longer-dated deals in recent months.
The global artificial intelligence boom has propelled ASML to the top of Europe's stock market, as soaring demand for AI computer chips flows to the Dutch company that dominates the market for the equipment needed to make them. After blowout second quarter earnings, investors and analysts are asking a once far-fetched question: could ASML become Europe's first ever trillion-dollar firm? Key obstacles include doubts over how long Google, Amazon, and other hyperscalers will keep spending heavily on data centres, and whether ASML, its suppliers and customers such as TSMC and Samsung can execute expansion plans.
