Exclusive-ByteDance developing custom CPU chips to support AI rollout, sources say

Chinese technology giant ByteDance is developing its own central processing units (CPUs) to support its growing AI infrastructure needs, three people familiar with the matter said, as surging chip prices and prolonged supply ‌shortages constrain its expansion plans. The move underscores the industry's rapid shift toward "inference," where AI models are deployed to perform agentic tasks ‌that demand more from CPUs, working in tandem with the graphics chips made by Nvidia that have dominated the AI boom. The shift has created a shortage of CPUs in recent months, and global hyperscalers including Alphabet's Google, Amazon and Microsoft are also developing their own custom CPUs to reduce costs and tailor performance to their specific workloads.

Analysis-Europe's push to break Big Tech's grip tempered by internal debate

European leaders are divided on how far to go in curbing Big Tech as they weigh momentous decisions over giving EU firms preferential access to mobile satellite spectrum and limiting large multinationals' access to EU cloud tenders. On Tuesday, ‌Reuters reported Brussels was likely to leave an opening for Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon's low-earth-orbit satellite business Leo to acquire lucrative European ‌mobile satellite spectrum next year as a result of a compromise that will reserve the bulk of frequencies for European firms. A separate decision on EU cloud tenders set for June 3 is expected to temper the influence of U.S. firms such as Amazon, Alphabet's Google and Microsoft, which dominate the global cloud market with a combined 63% share.

XOVR ETF: Watch Hyperscaler AI Capex Before Summer 2026 Earnings Season

The ERShares Private-Public Crossover ETF (NYSEARCA:XOVR) sits at an awkward crossroad heading into summer 2026. Shares trade near $19.08, down 5% year-to-date even as the public-side AI mega-caps it holds have ripped higher. That disconnect matters because XOVR is the rare ETF that pairs late-stage private growth (SpaceX is the publicly known anchor) with public ... Google appeals US court ruling on search monopoly

Alphabet's Google on Friday appealed a Washington federal judge's ruling ‌that it holds illegal monopolies in online search ‌and related advertising. • Google argued that U.S. Judge Amit Mehta made legal errors in his 2024 ruling, which found the company illegally blocked competitors by paying billions of dollars annually to firms including Apple ‌to be the default search engine on new devices. • The arrangements did not prevent the device makers and browser developers from promoting rival search services like Microsoft's Bing, Google argued.
