Samsung Electronics said on Friday it has started shipping samples of its latest high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chip, or the 12-layer HBM4E, marking what it said was the industry's first shipment of such products. Samsung said the chip uses its latest 1c DRAM process technology, or sixth-generation 10-nanometer-class DRAM, alongside Samsung's 4-nanometer foundry logic base die. The move comes just three months after Samsung began shipping its HBM4 chips to customers in February, underscoring Samsung's efforts to strengthen its position in the next-generation AI memory market by proactively supplying samples of its latest products.

(Bloomberg) -- Micron Technology Inc. is the third-best performer in the S&P 500 Index this year and at the same time one of the least expensive stocks in the market. Rocket Lab and AST SpaceMobile have surged as investors bet on the next phase of the space economy. But aerospace giants including Boeing, Airbus, and Lockheed Martin could also benefit from growing enthusiasm around SpaceX.
Chinese technology giant ByteDance is developing its own central processing units (CPUs) to support its growing AI infrastructure needs, three people familiar with the matter said, as surging chip prices and prolonged supply shortages constrain its expansion plans. The move underscores the industry's rapid shift toward "inference," where AI models are deployed to perform agentic tasks that demand more from CPUs, working in tandem with the graphics chips made by Nvidia that have dominated the AI boom. The shift has created a shortage of CPUs in recent months, and global hyperscalers including Alphabet's Google, Amazon and Microsoft are also developing their own custom CPUs to reduce costs and tailor performance to their specific workloads.

European leaders are divided on how far to go in curbing Big Tech as they weigh momentous decisions over giving EU firms preferential access to mobile satellite spectrum and limiting large multinationals' access to EU cloud tenders. On Tuesday, Reuters reported Brussels was likely to leave an opening for Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon's low-earth-orbit satellite business Leo to acquire lucrative European mobile satellite spectrum next year as a result of a compromise that will reserve the bulk of frequencies for European firms. A separate decision on EU cloud tenders set for June 3 is expected to temper the influence of U.S. firms such as Amazon, Alphabet's Google and Microsoft, which dominate the global cloud market with a combined 63% share.
