<body><p>STORY: Samsung on Tuesday said it expects a 19-fold leap in profits over the second quarter from a year earlier.</p><p>The South Korean giant said operating profit would come in at over $58 billion, ahead of analyst estimates.</p><p>Revenue is expected to soar 129%.</p><p>It all comes as the global AI boom drives soaring demand for chips, sending prices for silicon sky-high.</p><p>That’s a direct boon for Samsung, which is the world’s largest maker of memory chips.</p><p>The company is seeing income surge even as it sets aside massive funds for worker bonuses.</p><p>And most analysts expect things to get even better.</p><p>One told Reuters that the memory chip shortage would only get worse this year and next, further supporting prices.</p><p>Others said customers were also seeking to sign longer-term supply deals, meaning the high prices could be locked in for longer.</p><p>In a recent report, Goldman Sachs forecast AI-related spending by U.S. giants like Microsoft and Meta would exceed $5 trillion by 2030.</p><p>However, some market-watchers warn that the big risk to firms like Samsung is a sudden slowdown in investment that dents demand.</p><p>Shares in the firm fell over 8% by lunchtime following Tuesday's news.</p><p>Some traders said investors were disappointed that the company’s earnings guidance wasn’t even more bullish.</p><p>Shares in the company are still up around five-fold over the past year.</p></body>

We're seeing strength across the AI trade. We're seeing money going back into tech, including some software that's been questionable through second quarter. So June often is considered not a strong month and ended up being a very strong month.
