Elon Musk is set to make a virtual appearance at a technology event hosted by semiconductor equipment leader ASML on Thursday, where he is expected to discuss Terafab, his proposed large-scale semiconductor manufacturing project designed to supply chips for Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX). The appearance comes as investors await the pricing of SpaceX’s initial public offering, which is expected later on Thursday and could become the largest IPO ever completed.
Elon Musk is expected to appear virtually at an event by computer chip equipment giant ASML on Thursday to discuss Terafab, his plan for a massive chipmaking plant to supply Tesla and IPO-bound SpaceX. The pricing of the initial public offering of Musk's SpaceX, potentially the largest ever, is expected later on Thursday. "Musk will share his vision on AI, robotics, space, and semiconductor manufacturing," an ASML spokesperson said in a statement.

Lam Research has opened a research lab in Salzburg, Austria, to advance a chip packaging technology that promises to increase chip density and cut costs, as the company looks to capitalize on surging AI demand for processors. The U.S. chipmaking tools supplier said on Wednesday that the Salzburg facility will focus on panel-level packaging, which replaces the semiconductor industry's traditional circular silicon wafers with square panels. Square panels can eliminate the dead space, allowing chipmakers to produce more chips per surface at a lower cost per unit — a crucial advantage as AI drives chip shortages.

ASML expects to see the first products created on the company's new High-NA machines within months, the chief executive of the world's top computer chip equipment maker, Christophe Fouquet, said on Tuesday. The tool will bring down costs for patterning, or creating the circuitry of the most advanced chips, for both logic and memory applications, Fouquet said, speaking at a conference in Belgium organised by research firm imec. Fouquet's remarks come weeks after top customer TSMC said High-NA tools, which can cost up to $400 million each, were too expensive.

SK Hynix is being aggressively courted by big global tech firms with offers to invest in its new production lines and fund purchases of pricey manufacturing tools as they rush to secure memory chips, people familiar with the matter said. The offers, unprecedented in the global memory chip industry, underscore the severity of the component's scarcity around the world, as chipmakers struggle to keep pace with surging demand amid an artificial intelligence boom. Memory chips are critical parts in AI data centers, smartphones, PCs and other areas. The firm's customers have been proposing a range of offers to the South Korean chipmaker, including investing in dedicated memory production lines, six people said.
