On brink of IPO, Musk's SpaceX already a household name, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds

Even before going public, Elon Musk’s SpaceX has become a household name in America — more widely recognized than legacy Apollo-era companies and even prominent 2028 presidential hopefuls, according to a Reuters/Ipsos ‌poll. For the last decade, SpaceX rockets have regularly returned to ocean platforms or giant mechanical arms on the launchpad in controlled ‌landings that resemble science fiction. Just 13% say they have never heard of SpaceX.

Boeing hits a stealth milestone investors overlooked

Boeing (BA) investors were fixated on two stories in May. One was a long-delayed jet order from China. The other was a slow climb in 737 production. A third development landed on June 1 but didn’t make nearly as much noise. Boeing said its MQ-28 Ghost Bat drone had cleared a key stealth test. ...

SpaceX IPO Could Be a Killer—in More Ways Than One

Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which is likely to get a $1.8 trillion price tag when it debuts on the Nasdaq next week, carries a host of superlatives. Part of the problem is SpaceX itself. The company combines Musk’s space, satellite, social media, and artificial intelligence divisions, and is expected to float 555 million shares next week with a share price of around $135.

Boeing CEO signals massive new FAA move for 737 jets

There is a version of the Boeing story that has dominated headlines for the past two years. It’s the version with production caps, regulatory scrutiny, quality lapses, and a January 2024 door-plug blowout that grounded investor confidence as thoroughly as it grounded the affected aircraft. On May ...

Boeing stock rose after CEO Kelly Ortberg gave investors some good news about an important 737 MAX milestone. The company passed its capstone review with the Federal Aviation Administration, allowing it to increase its 737 MAX production to 47 jets a month, Ortberg said at the Bernstein Strategic Decisions investor conference Wednesday. Boeing Says It’s Ready to Increase MAX Production Again

Boeing's CEO said the company is ready to expand production of its 737 MAX models to 47 jets a month, a hopeful sign for its effort to move past quality-control problems. CEO Kelly Ortberg said Boeing recently passed a "capstone review" of its MAX production, clearing the way for its next increase in output. The Federal Aviation Administration capped Boeing's monthly manufacturing rate in 2024 after the midair blowout of a 737 MAX door panel, and regulators last year removed some production restrictions, but the company has ramped up output gradually to avoid snags.

NTSB: Flaw that led to engine flying off UPS plane grew unnoticed under relaxed inspection schedule

A UPS plane crash that killed 15 people last year might have been prevented if an original inspection schedule hadn't been relaxed, but mechanics didn't get a close look at the parts that should have kept an engine from flying off its wing because federal regulators allowed Boeing to recommend checking them less frequently, according to testimony Wednesday. The National Transportation Safety Board's questions also drew out that Boeing relied on older data when it asked to extend the inspection schedule in 2015, and didn't seem to account for seven instances on other planes of the same model when the key engine mount parts were failing. The Federal Aviation Administration, for its part, approved the request after a month's review without seeking more information.
