Intel shares soar on reported in-house chip deal with Alphabet

<body><p>STORY: Alphabet’s Google has placed an order with Intel for more than three million chips in 2028.</p><p>:: Intel</p><p>:: Nvidia</p><p>That’s according to the news site The Information Monday which also reported that Nvidia is evaluating Intel’s technology and running early trials as it considers future orders.</p><p>:: Intel</p><p>Shares of Intel jumped as much as 12% Monday morning to add to the nearly 169% gain so far this year, on the back of signs of steady turnaround progress under CEO Lip-Bu Tan.</p><p>:: Intel</p><p>Intel declined to comment on the report, while Alphabet and Nvidia did not immediately respond to requests for comment.</p><p>Reuters could not independently verify the report.</p><p>The potential order for Google's in-house AI chips would be a major win for Intel's contract manufacturing business, as the company works to regain ground it lost to Taiwan's TSMC after years of management missteps.</p><p>:: Archive</p><p>According to The Information's report, surging demand has led companies to seek out other manufacturers as TSMC tries to keep up with orders.</p><p>Since Lip-Bu Tan took charge, Intel has secured billions of dollars of investments from the Trump administration, Nvidia and SoftBank.</p><p>It is also working on chips for Tesla.</p><p>:: Intel</p><p>One analyst told Reuters that companies are supporting Intel because it has U.S.-based manufacturing, which is important for relationships with the Trump administration.&nbsp;</p></body>
