The Nasdaq Composite hasn't had a stretch this volatile in nearly two years. If the Nasdaq moves more than 1% today, it would mark its longest such stretch of two-way volatility since Aug. 8, 2024, according to Dow Jones Market Data. "Any time we see elevated two-way volatility like this, it suggests that both pattern breakouts and breakdowns are not working," Frank Cappelleri, founder of technical analysis firm CappThesis, tells Barron's. "In other words, sharp reversals and extreme price swings like these indicate that significant posturing currently exists on BOTH sides of the market."
