During an interview with CNBC, JPMorgan’s Global Market Strategist, Hugh Gimber, said the chip sector's next leg higher depends on continued Big Tech AI spending.

Investing.com -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM) reported a 77% year-on-year surge in Q2 2026 net profit to a record T$706.6 billion ($21.99 billion) on Thursday, blowing past Wall Street's EPS estimate of $3.80 with a print of $4.31, yet the stock was indicated about 4% lower in premarket trading as investors weighed a sharply expanded capital spending plan against near-term margin pressure.
The technology sector was dragging markets on Wall Street and around the world mostly lower Thursday and oil prices fell despite a flurry of military strikes between the U.S. and Iran. Chip and memory companies were getting hit the hardest, with Western Digital and SanDisk leading the way down with losses of more than 7%. Despite the heavy investment in artificial intelligence, investors remain concerned that stock prices have shot too high and that the demand may not be sustainable if AI doesn’t deliver as much profit and productivity as expected.
Intel reports earnings on July 23, and something unusual is happening ahead of that print: prediction markets, insider activity, and a major rival's capital are all pointing in the same direction at once.

ASML (NASDAQ:ASML) reported second-quarter 2026 net sales and gross margin above its own guidance, driven by stronger-than-expected demand from its installed base business and continued customer investment tied to artificial intelligence, memory and advanced logic production. Roger Dassen, ASML’s e
Intel has decided to use a high-end machine from ASML to manufacture some of its flagship Panther Lake laptop chips, ASML said on Tuesday, a move that will help the chipmaker learn to use the tool more effectively. Following experiments that began in 2024, Intel has begun to use ASML's next-generation high numerical aperture (High NA) extreme ultraviolet (EUV) machines, which print circuit patterns on to microchips, to help produce a portion of its Panther Lake processors, ASML said. The industry has debated at what point it makes economic sense to begin deploying the High NA tools, which likely will be needed by chipmakers in the future as they continue to shrink the atomic-sized features that make up chips.
(Bloomberg) -- ASML Holding NV lifted its annual sales forecast for the second time this year as a surge in artificial intelligence spending drives demand for the Dutch company’s chip-making machines. A cooler-than-expected inflation print sent chip stocks surging Tuesday, but AMD sitting at a 185x P/E after a 150% year-to-date run raises a sharp question: is this a breakout toward $600 or the setup for a painful unwind?
FEATURE The artificial-intelligence trade appeared to be reignited Tuesday as investors digested a slew of bank earnings reports ahead of the consumer-price index inflation report for June. International Business Machines sank 23% after the company’s preliminary second-quarter adjusted earnings and revenue missed analysts’ targets.
Wall Street looked set for a mixed open as investors digested a 23% plunge in IBM shares, another jump in oil prices and the start of the second-quarter earnings season. Dow Jones futures were down 281 points, or 0.5%, while S&P 500 futures were 0.1% lower. Nasdaq futures were pointing...
ASML, the biggest supplier of equipment used to manufacture AI chips, reports quarterly earnings on Wednesday looking to justify its chunky valuation and demonstrate how it will contend with U.S. moves to block exports to China. Clouding the outlook, however, is a proposed U.S. law requiring U.S. allies to align with export controls to curb China's ability to make advanced chips, with ASML named in the legislation. The company has denied selling its most advanced EUV tools to China, which is forecast to account for up to 20% of ASML's sales this year through legal purchases of less-advanced DUV tools to make chips for automotive, industrial and electronic products.
The upgrade is part of chipmaker’s effort to meet AI chip demand and strengthening Europe’s semiconductor supply chain.
Intel has begun a €5 billion ($5.7 billion) capital investment at its Irish campus to expand its manufacturing output in Europe and meet growing global demand for AI and high-performance computing, the U.S. chipmaker said on Monday. Intel said the move would maximize capacity at its European manufacturing base in Leixlip outside Dublin, expanding current production output, advancing research and development activities and utilising capacity across existing cleanroom space. Intel is one of the key multinationals in Ireland's foreign investment-focused economy, having already invested €30 billion in the country since 1989, more than half of which was spent between 2019 and 2023 to double capacity at the plant in order to produce the company's most advanced process technologies.
