UK orders Google to improve search transparency to aid competition

<body><p>STORY: Britain’s competition watchdog has ordered Google to give greater transparency on how its search rankings work.</p><p>It’s part of new rules aimed at securing a "fairer deal" for businesses.</p><p>And addresses concerns over the U.S. tech giant's dominance in the sector.</p><p>The regulator said Google must also rank organic search results using objective criteria and introduce clearer complaint processes.&nbsp;</p><p>Google said it will work with the watchdog, adding that its ranking systems are fair and transparent.</p><p>These new measures follow UK watchdog requirements announced earlier this month,&nbsp;</p><p>which enable publishers to stop their content being used to power Google's AI features.</p><p>Google in March said it was developing new search controls to address British competition concerns.</p><p>The regulator said Google has six months to implement the fair ranking requirement - and warns of further measures if necessary.&nbsp;</p><p>This adds to the increasing regulatory scrutiny the tech giant is facing around the world, including in the U.S. and EU.</p></body>

Adoption of artificial intelligence has reached a "tipping point" in Britain, as companies move from experimentation ‌to large-scale deployment and start seeing returns, a Google Cloud executive ‌said on Wednesday.
