The August consumer price index, out at 8:30 a.m. ET, is the last hope to avoid a Federal Reserve rate hike next week, but the chances appear to be fading with oil prices holding near $100 a barrel. It may take a tepid reading for core CPI inflation to keep the Fed on hold after Thursday's producer price index showed a jump in hospital prices. S&P 500 futures pointed solidly higher early Friday amid a positive reception for Oracle earnings and oil's pullback from above $100 on news that Iran's foreign minister will meeting with Gulf state counterparts to discuss the path to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
