Pre-Market Stock Futures: Futures are trading mixed after a second brutal day, with all major indices finishing lower again. Rising rates, Brent Crude trading above $100, and what appears to be an increase in the Iran attacks in the Persian Gulf were all it took for sellers to keep hitting bids. Uber (UBER) Cleared A Key Hurdle In Its California Racketeering Lawsuit

Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) cleared a key hurdle in its California racketeering lawsuit as a federal judge allowed most claims against lawyers and medical providers to proceed. The suit alleges a coordinated scheme that Uber says inflated costs tied to staged or exaggerated rideshare injury claims under U.S. racketeering laws. Separately, a new U.S. class action accuses Uber of misleading consumers with Uber Eats priority delivery fees linked to its "direct to you" marketing. Both cases...

On July 29, DoorDash (NASDAQ:DASH) launched DoorDash Air, its own in-house drone delivery program, after clearing a Federal Aviation Administration certification to fly commercial drone deliveries across the US. It is the clearest signal yet that DoorDash wants control over how food and goods move, not just who delivers them. The question for investors is […]

Uber, Lyft win court block on NYC law requiring notice before firing drivers

July 22 (Reuters) - A federal judge has ruled that New York City cannot prohibit Uber Technologies and Lyft from deactivating drivers from their apps ‌without advance notice, ruling that the novel law is unconstitutional. District Judge Gregory ‌Woods in Manhattan said in a written ruling on Tuesday that the city's law adopted earlier this year benefits a small fraction of drivers while interfering with the ride-hailing companies' right to police the safety of their platforms.

Apple sues OpenAI alleging trade secret theft

In a classic “Friday news dump,” Apple filed a federal lawsuit in California against OpenAI, accusing its once-partner of stealing some of its trade secrets. Specifically, it’s alleging that two of its former employees brought proprietary and confidential information about its hardware to OpenAI when they joined. The lawsuit calls to mind Waymo’s trade secret theft lawsuit against Uber, filed in 2017. Similarly, a well-established tech giant publicly accused a fast-ascending private company, loc

Uber board sued over alleged 'serial' compliance failures, sexual abuse lawsuits

Uber Technologies' board was sued on Monday by shareholders who accused management and directors of letting the ride-sharing ‌company cut corners on compliance, leading to thousands of lawsuits from victims ‌of sexual assault and harassment. In a complaint filed in San Francisco federal court, shareholders led by a Detroit pension fund said board members ignored repeated internal and external warnings about Uber's alleged failure to address sexual abuse by drivers. Shareholders said oversight failures were also a factor in lawsuits filed last year by the federal government, which accused Uber ‌of routinely refusing to serve disabled passengers, including people with service animals or stowable wheelchairs, and engaging in deceptive billing and cancellation practices.
