Apple launches US device leasing program with Klarna

Apple on Tuesday launched a device leasing program in the U.S. through ‌payments firm Klarna, offering customers monthly plans for ‌iPhones, Macs, iPads and Apple Watches. The program, called Apple Upgrade, expands ​the technology giant's payment options and replaces its existing iPhone Upgrade Program and iPhone Payments offering in the country. Customers can lease iPhones and Apple Watches for ‌12 or 24 ⁠months, while Macs and iPads are available under 24- or 36-month plans, Apple said.

Samsung Electronics on Wednesday unveiled a passport-sized foldable phone and raised prices of two updated foldable models, as it grapples ‌with rising memory chip prices while bracing for a new threat from Apple ‌in the niche but growing segment. The South Korean technology company pioneered foldable smartphones but its dominance is set to ​be challenged by Apple which analysts expect this year to launch a foldable phone with a screen similar in size to an iPad mini. "Strategically, this is one of Samsung's most important foldable launches," said Francisco Jeronimo, vice president at researcher IDC.

<body><p>STORY: From Tesla's self-driving challenges in Europe... to South Korea's chip and AI mega-projects...</p><p>This is Tech Weekly.</p><p>:: Tech Weekly</p><p>European regulators are to meet and discuss whether to roll out Tesla's supervised Full Self-Driving system across the region.</p><p>The tech is already available in the U.S. and is expected to boost the EV maker's sales in Europe.</p><p>But it's divided the continent's regulators.</p><p>Ahead of a crucial vote — not expected before October — some countries have individually authorized&nbsp;the system.</p><p>But others have raised safety concerns, including about its ability to drive above legally posted speed limits.</p><p>:: Archive</p><p>Details and photos of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro are among files posted on the dark web.</p><p>That’s according to a source and documents seen by Reuters.</p><p>The material is reportedly part of files posted by a ransomware group that stole data from Apple supplier Tata Electronics.</p><p>The exposure could threaten the Indian firm’s relationship with the U.S. giant.</p><p>Documents reviewed by Reuters show details of parts including the new phone’s main circuit board, batteries and cameras.</p><p>Comcast said it will split into two publicly traded companies, separating its media and entertainment brands from its broadband cable and wireless businesses.</p><p>:: Comcast</p><p>The announcement sent its shares up as much as 17% at one point.</p><p>:: Universal Orlando Resort</p><p>Comcast would spin off NBCUniversal and Sky to create a company that includes NBC, Peacock, Universal theme parks, and film and TV studios.</p><p>The other company would be comprised of Comcast's cable, wireless and business services divisions.</p><p>South Korea rolled out sweeping chip and AI mega-projects.</p><p>President Lee Jae Myung pledged investments worth more than $576 billion over several years.</p><p>:: SK Hynix&nbsp;</p><p>It’s a move that aims to cement the nation’s overwhelming industry leadership.</p><p>Lee was joined for the announcement by the leaders of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.</p><p>Shell unveiled a small electric concept car that it says can recharge in under 10 minutes.</p><p>It uses a special cooling fluid to help stop the battery overheating.</p><p>Shell said the car, called the Triple 10 Challenge, charged from 10% to 80% in 9 minutes and 54 seconds on a 175 kW public fast charger.</p><p>It describes the car as a road-worthy proof-of-concept vehicle.</p><p>Toby Rockstroh is energy application testing manager at Shell Technology Center.&nbsp;</p><p>"When we looked at battery electric vehicles, they're getting bigger and larger and heavier, so we set ourselves the challenge saying we can have a smaller battery electric vehicle that can charge fast and be convenient,"</p></body>
