CVS Health saw its shares dip about 6% even though it handily beat Wall Street’s expectations for the most recent quarter and raised its guidance for 2026 earnings. The issue was the company’s unusually early commentary about 2027.

Since its obesity pill Foundayo hit the market in April, Lilly has captured about 11% of the prescription volume for new pills, according to the latest weekly data. The Federal Trade Commission announced a settlement with CVS Health’s pharmacy benefit manager business on Tuesday, the agency’s second major agreement this year with drug industry middlemen. Pharmacy-benefit managers, or PBMs, play a key role in negotiating with drug companies and selecting which prescription drugs will be covered by an insurance plan. In litigation filed in 2024 during the Biden administration, the commission alleged that rebates and fees collected by major PBMs from drug manufacturers artificially inflated the price of insulin.
After a rocky start to the year, health insurer stocks have roared back. The insurers are trying to end a difficult cycle that began about three years ago, when healthcare use, and the costs to cover it, accelerated postpandemic. The fund’s top 10 holdings encompass six health insurers, three of which— UnitedHealth Group Aetna parent CVS Health and Elevance Health —comprise more than 40% of the fund.
CVS Health is scheduled to post its second-quarter results in August, and analysts project a single-digit earnings rise.
The settlement could be the end of a long legal saga for Omnicare, which filed for bankruptcy last year after a judge ordered the company to pay nearly $950 million for fraudulently billing government health programs.
David Joyner’s assurances, which come about a month before CVS is scheduled to report its second quarter results, will likely be welcomed by investors wary after a difficult few years for insurers.
Before the stock surged, management laid out a turnaround plan for its Aetna unit that was so explicit, they practically put a price tag on it.

Over the past six months, CVS Health has been a great trade, beating the S&P 500 by 20%. Its stock price has climbed to $100.39, representing a healthy 26.4% increase. This was partly thanks to its solid quarterly results, and the run-up might have investors contemplating their next move.

Eli Lilly shares are on pace to hit a new all-time closing high on news of increased insurance coverage for its blockbuster weight-loss drug Zepbound. Lilly shares were recently up 4.4% to $1,130.90. Pharmacy-benefit manager CVS Caremark decided to add back Lilly’s Zepbound weight-loss drug to its lists of preferred drugs.
May 28 () - CVS Health said on Thursday it will add Eli Lilly's weight-loss drug Zepbound back to some of its drug lists as an additional preferred option for insurance coverage. Caremark, CVS' pharmacy benefit management unit, had dropped Zepbound from coverage on July 1 last year, while continuing to reimburse for rival Novo Nordisk's Wegovy after negotiating a more favorable price from the Danish drugmaker.
Three major hospital systems have accused CVS of allegedly diverting hundreds of millions from the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program.

More than 20 years after it redefined fast shipping, Amazon is preparing to raise the bar on consumer expectations again by offering to fulfill customers' most urgent product needs in a half-hour or less for an extra fee. The company, which revolutionized online shopping in 2005 with two-day deliveries for Prime members, is rapidly opening small order-processing hubs in dozens of U.S. and foreign cities to cater to shoppers who can't or don't want to wait for cough medicine to relieve flu symptoms or tomatoes for tonight's dinner salad. The ultrafast service, called Amazon Now, first launched in India last June.
