Quantinuum IPO Frenzy Sparks Selloff Across Quantum Computing Stocks

Shares of Quantinuum rose 13.3% in their Nasdaq debut, fetching a valuation of $17.63 billion as Honeywell's quantum computing company became the latest to benefit from robust investor demand. Breakthroughs in the fast-growing technology have spurred bets that quantum machines could eventually outperform conventional computers ‌on certain complex tasks. Quantinuum, like its rival IonQ, makes machines that hit trapped ions with lasers to perform quantum computations, where data can be either 1 or a ​0, as with conventional computers, or both a 1 and a 0 at once.

Quantinuum stock, with the ‘QNT’ symbol, will begin trading on the Nasdaq Global Market on Thursday.

D-Wave noted a second funding award from the government in May, as the quantum computing company continues to build on its R&D efforts.

Quantinuum is set to make the biggest trading debut for any quantum company this year. As anticipation rises, the company is upsizing its initial public offering to as much as $1.46 billion. Quantinuum indicated Monday that it plans to offer 26.5 million shares at prices ranging from $53 to $55 each, compared with earlier plans to sell roughly 21 million shares for $45 to $50 each.

Quantinuum, which has filed for an IPO, will likely start trading in early June as the number of quantum computing stocks continues to swell.

The federal government plans to provide hundreds of millions of dollars to a number of quantum firms to support domestic foundry and technology development.

This newly public quantum company recently won a $100 million government contract.
