Michael Burry's biggest moneymaker isn't a stock

There is a version of getting rich on Wall Street that has nothing to do with being right about a stock. You can spend a career building a reputation and then, one day, discover the reputation itself is the position. It pays whether or not your next call works. It compounds while you sleep. It does ...

Fast-food chicken giant quietly closed 207 U.S. restaurants

According to Placer.ai, Q1 2026 U.S. quick-service restaurant (QSR) traffic grew just 0.1% year-over-year as ...

APA (APA) Stock Looks Cheap Relative To Its Earnings Power

APA stock has logged a 127.5% return over the past five years, and the current valuation checks still point to it screening cheap rather than stretched. That combination of a strong long run and a positive valuation read is drawing attention to whether the recent share price now fully reflects the risks and opportunities around the business. Review & Preview: Inflation Cools

It was a jam-packed day for the markets: earnings season started strong, oil futures fluctuated, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh testified in front of lawmakers, and the latest June inflation report delivered a cooler-than-expected reading that should make policymakers hold off on raising interest rates—for now. The Dow closed just above the flatline at 0.02%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.9% and the S&P 500 finished the day up 0.4%.

Exclusive-AI cloud company CoreWeave explores Wall Street playbook to hedge memory-chip price risk

AI cloud computing company CoreWeave is exploring the use of financial derivatives as a potential hedge ‌against a future drop in memory and storage chip prices, according to ‌a person familiar with the matter. To lock in supply amid soaring demand, thanks to a surge in AI infrastructure construction, cloud operators including CoreWeave have signed long-term agreements with memory and storage makers such as Micron and SanDisk. But the arrangement cuts both ways: it protects chipmakers from a downturn, but leaves cloud companies like CoreWeave exposed if prices fall and they are stuck paying well above the going rate.

Writers Guild of America seeks to block Paramount's buyout of Warner in latest merger challenge

The Writers Guild of America became the latest group to challenge Paramount's $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on Tuesday, filing a lawsuit that seeks to block the merger on the grounds it would cause “specific harm” to movie and TV writers working across the U.S. A Paramount-Warner merger “threatens the economic and creative health of the American entertainment industry,” reads Tuesday's federal complaint, which was filed by both the Writers Guild of America West and Writers Guild of America East (jointly the WGA). “This proposed combined entity would be the largest employer of writers, with tremendous power to suppress our wages, eliminate opportunities for emerging writers, cut jobs across the industry, and produce less programming," WGAE President Tom Fontana said in a statement.

Wall Street ends higher on cool inflation data, solid bank earnings

<body><p>STORY: U.S. stocks closed mostly higher on Tuesday, with the Dow ending little changed, the S&P 500 adding almost four-tenths of a percent and the Nasdaq gaining nine-tenths of a percent.</p><p>Second-quarter earnings season began with five big U.S. banks reporting solid results, buoyed by trading strength and dealmaking.</p><p>Shares of Goldman Sachs surged 9%, while JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America also closed higher.</p><p>Robert Conzo, CEO and managing director of The Wealth Alliance, said he expects corporate earnings this&nbsp;quarter to remain strong which should help markets advance.</p><p>"When you look at the earnings estimates for the second quarter, it's at 23.6 [percent], north of 20. That's coming off of a first quarter earnings of about 27 [percent]. Again, a huge number north of 20. The last time that happened was in the first and second quarter of 2021 when we were coming off of Covid. So these are big earnings projections going forward. The market was looking for that because all eyes on earnings in the face of sticky inflation.”</p><p>But inflation was a little less "sticky" in June, as Tuesday's release of the Labor Department's Consumer Price Index showed the annual inflation rate dropped to 3.5%, due largely to receding oil prices that have since rebounded.</p><p>Other stocks on the move Tuesday included U.S.- listed shares of SK Hynix, which soared more than 27% after tumbling on Monday following a strong Friday debut.</p><p>And shares of IBM plummeted more than 25% after the tech company warned second-quarter revenue would fall below estimates.</p></body>
