Investing.com -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS) reported second-quarter earnings on Tuesday, exceeding analyst expectations, driven by strong performance in its trading and investment banking businesses.
Big banks so far are reporting better-than-expected results for the second quarter: Citigroup: Profit rose 45%, with revenue up 14%. Goldman Sachs: Profit jumped 78%, and revenue surged 39%. JPMorgan: Profit soared 41%, with revenue up 28% (results were boosted by a big one-time gain on its Visa stake).
Merck & Co. is expected to announce its second-quarter earnings in August, and Wall Street forecasts a double-digit decline in its profits.
