<body><p>STORY: From the EU's sanctions on Russia to BitMEX shutting down...</p><p>This is Crypto Weekly.</p><p>:: Crypto Weekly</p><p>:: HTX caught up in EU's Russia sanctions</p><p>The European Union hit Russia with its largest sanctions package in four years.</p><p>EU foreign policy head Kaja Kallas said the measures hit more than 100 banks and cryptocurrency operators.</p><p>Crypto exchange HTX go caught up in the move.</p><p>The firm was included in a list of 18 companies providing crypto services which the EU said helped Russians evade sanctions.</p><p>HTX didn't respond to a request for comment.</p><p>:: Coinbase settles lawsuit with U.S. SEC</p><p>Coinbase settled a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.</p><p>That's what the crypto exchange's chief legal officer Paul Grewal said in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.</p><p>He announced the agency had lost text messages between former Chair Gary Gensler and other officials.</p><p>That after a process the SEC said "automatically wiped" certain data.</p><p>Grewal wrote the SEC will pay $150,000 and fix its record-retention policies as part of the settlement. </p><p>:: BitMEX announces it will shut down</p><p>And crypto exchange BitMEX announced it will shut down operations in September.</p><p>It further urged customers to withdraw their assets.</p><p>BitMEX didn't give a reason for the closure but said in a statement the decision followed a strategic review of the business and wider crypto industry by its owner.</p><p>The closure comes as crypto prices struggle.</p><p>Bitcoin has given up most of its gains from last year after a rally fueled by Trump's election to a second term fell away.</p></body>
