<body><p>STORY: From Tesla feeling the strain to Lockheed Martin's new drone fighter... This is Tech Weekly.</p><p>:: Tech Weekly</p><p>Tesla missed analyst profit forecasts for the second quarter.</p><p>And Elon Musk's EV giant also reported negative free cash flow for the first time in more than two years.</p><p>It comes with Tesla accelerating its spend on infrastructure for its AI and robotics ambitions.</p><p>The automaker beat expectations with revenue of $28.2 billion.</p><p>But adjusted profit in the quarter was 33 cents per share, lower than analysts' expectation of 51 cents per share</p><p>Scientists from a U.S.-funded facility have prepared to launch the first outdoor tests of genetically modified screwworm flies, called Novofly.</p><p>It's part of efforts to develop a more effective weapon against the flesh-easting parasite, which has spread through Central America and into the U.S.</p><p>Alex Arp is a USDA research geneticist.</p><p>"Where instead of using pesticides to kill insects, we sterilize the insects, release a ton of them out into the environment, and those sterile matings result in no offspring. So, it's essentially birth control for insects. So, it's species-specific and it's pesticide-free insect control."</p><p>Apple's incoming CEO John Ternus said he's committed to building on the company's momentum in the entertainment business.</p><p>Ternus was speaking alongside current CEO Tim Cook at the LA premiere of Apple TV show 'Ted Lasso'.</p><p>"Yeah, I think we have such tremendous momentum right now at Apple TV. There are so many amazing shows, so many amazing characters and stories and so we're just going to keep building on that momentum."</p><p>Ternus is due to take charge at the iPhone maker in September.</p><p>And Lockheed Martin unveiled a counter-drone system at the Farnborough Airshow.</p><p>Lockheed said the reusable airborne device uses high-power microwave energy to disable groups of small unmanned aircraft.</p><p>The system is called MORFIUS X-Rotor and designed to fly towards hostile drones and bring them down with microwave pulses rather than destroy them with an explosive warhead.</p><p>It comes with Western militaries developing cheaper ways to defend troops and bases against drone swarms.</p></body>
