Asian shares were mostly higher Wednesday after U.S. stocks slipped a bit further from their records, while oil prices advanced as doubts persisted over when the war with Iran will allow crude to flow freely again. Samsung Electronics gained 7.7% and memory chipmaker SK Hynix was up 7.1%. The price of a barrel of Brent crude, the international standard, was up 0.9% at $89.67 early Wednesday.

Shares were mixed in Asia, while oil prices were holding steady Tuesday after jumping the day before as uncertainty persisted over when the Strait of Hormuz could reopen and get the global flow of crude going again. U.S. futures edged higher. Brent crude oil was unchanged at $87.72 a barrel, while U.S. benchmark crude also was flat at $82.13 a barrel.

Asian shares rise after rally on Wall Street as data show US inflation slowing

Asian shares mostly rose Wednesday, tracking a rally on Wall Street following a report that showed U.S. inflation was not as bad last month as economists expected. Shares in computer chipmaker SK Hynix rose 9.4%, while those of Samsung Electronics surged 6.1%.
