Meta Platforms will face a coalition of state attorneys general in a California federal court trial beginning on Wednesday over claims it engineered Facebook and Instagram to be addictive to children, a case that could expose the company to massive damages and force it to make sweeping changes to its platforms. Chinese regulators ordered Meta to reverse its December acquisition of the AI agent startup, triggering a data deletion process for some users

Open-source software has been one of tech’s biggest-ever success stories. No surprise, then, that developers of open-weight AI models try to borrow some open-source sunshine. Meta Platforms chief Mark Zuckerberg on Monday became the latest tech executive to draw an equivalence between the two, calling open-weight models “open source AI” in a 6,500-word essay posted by the company.
AI startup Manus said on Tuesday it will resume operating as an independent company and some user data will be deleted as part of its separation from U.S. tech giant Meta. • "As part of our transition back to independent operations and to comply with regulatory requirements in specific jurisdictions, data generated by certain users on/after December 29, 2025" will be deleted later this month, Manus said in a statement. • Affected users will be notified through the Manus app and by email and will be able to back up their data, the company said.

IBM and startup Together AI have signed a $240 million multi-year agreement to build a large-scale artificial intelligence cluster on IBM Cloud using Nvidia systems, the companies said on Tuesday. The cluster will provide inference for open-source AI models, which have gained traction as businesses seek to rein in AI costs and weigh concerns about cybersecurity incidents involving models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Meta. Inference, the process of running trained AI models to generate responses, has become one of the largest drivers of demand for computing capacity, prompting cloud providers and chipmakers to spend billions of dollars expanding AI infrastructure.
Anthropic’s $965 billion IPO path rests on the aggressive, multi-layered industrialization of compute. The company has transformed access from a variable cost into a structural moat by diversifying hardware and energy supply across three continents through seven distinct funding mechanisms — effectively decoupling its growth from the supply-chain bottlenecks that throttle competitors tethered to single-cloud […]

The president's media company has tried its hand at a half-dozen new lines of business to lift its stock, but nothing has worked. In a conference call with investors Monday, the company behind Truth Social said it will be unwinding much of its expansion and doubling down on its original media business by selling a form of White House access, a move that has raised big ethical questions among Democrats and government watchdogs. Trump started Truth Social after he was kicked off Twitter and Facebook, but the two reinstated him more than three years ago, so the company has had to transform itself.
