Investing.com -- Apple announced Tuesday a multiyear agreement with Broadcom valued at more than $30 billion to design and produce custom silicon components and wireless connectivity technologies for Apple products. The deal will result in the production of more than 15 billion U.S.-made chips and support hundreds of American jobs.
Apple plans to spend more than $30 billion as part of a chip-supply agreement reached earlier this week with Broadcom that will also see the chipmaker expand a factory in Colorado, the companies said on Wednesday. Broadcom disclosed on Monday it had secured a long-term supply deal through 2031 with the iPhone maker. On Wednesday, Apple said the deal will involve a radiofrequency chip called FBAR filters that will help Apple devices communicate wirelessly and which Apple has been working with Broadcom to develop since at least 2023.
Apple is ramping up its investment in U.S.-made chips, with plans to spend more than $30 billion with Broadcom in the next five years. Broadcom said on Monday that the chipmaker and Apple have agreed to expand their partnership through 2031 to develop and supply a range of custom chips.
