GameStop (NYSE:GME) shares rose 1. 4% in premarket trading to $22.
GameStop (GME) tried to buy eBay once already, and the answer was no. That rejection would have ended most takeover attempts. Cohen is not backing down. Instead, GameStop spent the following weeks building a bigger position and a stronger balance sheet, the opposite of what a retreat looks like. In ...
GameStop pledged on Friday to pursue its proposed takeover of eBay, even after the e-commerce firm rejected an unsolicited cash-and-stock offer of about $56 billion from the videogame retailer. GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen had surprised Wall Street with the offer to buy eBay in May to turn it into a bigger competitor to Amazon. GameStop also expects to generate adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of more than $600 million in fiscal 2026, compared with $345.4 million reported in fiscal 2025, it said in a regulatory filing.
The proposed CEO Performance Award was a large stock option package for Ryan Cohen that GameStop’s board approved in January 2026.

The probe is the first phase of a review to see if the deal could hurt competition.
The UK competition regulator on Monday launched a probe into eBay's $1.2 billion purchase of Gen Z-focused fashion resale platform Depop from Etsy. The deal was announced earlier this year and is expected to help Etsy double down on its core handmade and vintage goods marketplace in pursuit of a turnaround. The firm has been grappling with softer demand and strong competition from online e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.

GameStop may not have successfully courted eBay but the retailer reported its biggest quarter on record. The company said that’s the highest quarterly net income on record and its highest operating income in a first-quarter.

GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen shared few details when he said he would do "whatever we need to do" to buy eBay after the e-commerce company rejected his $56 billion unsolicited takeover bid as "neither credible nor attractive." In early May, Cohen offered eBay's board $125 a share as well as his services as CEO. Half the offer was in cash and half in stock, with the cash portion coming from GameStop's $9.4 billion in cash reserves.
GameStop asked its shareholders to approve an increase in its share count. The video game retailer made the request in a Friday letter to shareholders, in which the company's board also proposed giving its chief executive, Ryan Cohen, a 100% performance-based option award. "A reserve of authorized shares ensures GameStop can act decisively when the right opportunity arises," the company said in the letter.
Investing.com -- GameStop has increased its stake in eBay to approximately 6.6% from around 5%, according to a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday.
GameStop has increased its stake in eBay to about 6.55%, the videogame retailer disclosed in a filing on Tuesday, days after the e-commerce company rejected its $56 billion takeover bid. GameStop previously owned around a 5% stake in eBay and some analysts said its CEO Ryan Cohen could eventually push for a special shareholder meeting or seek board representation more supportive of his proposal. In an interview with journalist Piers Morgan last week, Cohen had said eBay's board had a responsibility to engage with his offer in the best interests of shareholders, adding that "we'll do whatever we need to do" if it failed to do so.
GameStop said in a filing last night that it now controls the equivalent of 6.55% of the company’s outstanding shares, up from around 5%, as it keeps trying to take over the e-commerce business. Shares in both GameStop and eBay are little changed in premarket trading.
