Super Micro Computer said on Tuesday it expects to post fourth-quarter gross margins above its previous forecast, driving its shares up 16% in after-hours trading. AI infrastructure firms have seen accelerated demand as tech companies and cloud providers ramp up investments in data centers to support large language models and other AI applications. Super Micro anticipates gross margins in the range of 15% to 17% for the quarter, well above its earlier its forecast of 8.2% to 8.4%, "primarily due to a favorable customer and product mix."

Super Micro Computer is set to unveil its fourth-quarter results soon, with analysts predicting a double-digit earnings surge.
U.S. trade regulators have launched a probe into Samsung Electronics' memory chips and products sold by Google, Nvidia, Broadcom and Super Micro Computer that use them after a complaint by Netlist alleging infringement of its patents. California-based Netlist has accused Samsung and its U.S. units of infringing its patents on dynamic random access memory, a type of chip that temporarily stores data for processors and is a critical component in the servers powering the AI boom, the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) said on Wednesday.

Super Micro said on Wednesday that two workers at its Taiwan unit had been detained pending a court hearing and two others released on bail after being questioned by Taiwanese prosecutors investigating the alleged illegal export of advanced AI servers containing Nvidia chips. The servers are made by Super Micro and contain Nvidia chips, which are subject to U.S. export controls prohibiting export to China. The four workers were among six people questioned earlier this week when Taiwan's Keelung District Prosecutors' Office said it had launched a second round of searches in the probe.
