Arista Networks stock soared Tuesday after the network infrastructure company reported better-than-expected second-quarter earnings. The results provided further evidence that demand for artificial-intelligence services is accelerating, with hardware suppliers like Arista among the main beneficiaries. Arista reported adjusted earnings of $1.02 a share for the second quarter, up from 73 cents last year and above analysts’ call for 89 cents, per FactSet.
Microsoft Corp, Meta Platforms Inc, Oracle Corp, Amazon and Alphabet have committed about $1.09 trillion in future payments under leases that have not yet begun, mostly for data centres needed to power the artificial intelligence boom. The commitments show that a substantial part of Big Tech's AI spending spree has already been locked in, without yet appearing as debt-like lease liabilities on company balance sheets.
