SpaceX's IPO filing revealed extensive commercial and financial ties among Elon Musk's companies ranging from Cybertruck purchases and shared private jets to stock investments, showing how deeply intertwined his business empire has become ahead of what could become the largest IPO in history. While many of the billionaire's companies have long collaborated, the filing contains previously undisclosed details about how they now form a network bound by commercial agreements, financing obligations and operational dependencies spanning AI, transportation, communications and infrastructure. The disclosures on Wednesday showed rapidly expanding transactions among SpaceX, electric vehicle maker Tesla, artificial intelligence company xAI and social network X ahead of a planned SpaceX IPO targeting a valuation of about $1.75 trillion.

Tesla Owns Nearly 19 Million Shares of SpaceX: What TSLA Investors Need to Know Before the IPO
Wedbush analyst Dan Ives and team put out a research note shortly after the SpaceX prospectus dropped with a prediction: Ives believes that SpaceX and Tesla will merge in 2027. He notes how Tesla already owns a stake in SpaceX and that the joint Terafab facility between SpaceX and Tesla further ties both operations.
SpaceX laid out all of its connected transactions with Tesla, including that it bought $131 million of Cybertrucks from Tesla in 2025 at the “manufacturer’s suggested retail price.” The SpaceX prospectus provided the first glimpse of the dollar figures for payments to Musk’s other companies. In total, Tesla is mentioned 87 times in the SpaceX prospectus, including this outlook: “We plan to explore other areas of strategic collaboration with Tesla in the future.”
In its lengthy risk factors section, SpaceX’s IPO filing notes that Elon Musk is critical to the company and that high dependency could put investors at risk. The filing says it doesn’t maintain key-person life insurance on Musk. Also, while Musk devotes significant time to SpaceX, he doesn’t devote his full time and attention, given his roles at Tesla, Neuralink and The Boring Company.
(Bloomberg) -- Tesla Inc. has generated around $890 million in revenue from SpaceX and xAI since 2023, a substantial sum underscoring the extent of commingling across Elon Musk’s business empire. Most Read from BloombergSpot the Difference: Putin Gets Trump Treatment From Xi in ChinaIran Threatens to Retaliate Beyond Middle East If US AttacksHasbro Cancels Dungeons & Dragons Game From ‘Star Wars’ VeteranUS Lawmakers Plan New $130 Fee for Electric Vehicle OwnersUS Treasuries Rebound on Optimism fo
Elon Musk’s companies are helping each other out—including with their corporate jets. SpaceX “obtained goods and services” of $144 million from Tesla last year, according to the filing, while Musk’s xAI paid Tesla about $731 million since the beginning of 2024.
Companies often inflate such numbers, referred to as their “total addressable market,” to show investors that they have a lot more room to grow. “We believe we have identified the largest actionable TAM in human history,” SpaceX’s filing crowed. Now, throw in the $10 trillion revenue opportunity SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk put forth for Tesla’s humanoid robot in January.
Elon Musk could pass an unthinkable wealth threshold, becoming the world’s first trillionaire, depending on investors’ excitement for SpaceX shares when it goes public. If the company surpasses a valuation of about $1.7 trillion, then Musk’s slightly more than 40% stake, combined with his Tesla shares, would make him the first man with a net worth eclipsing 13 figures. The calculation omits restricted shares that SpaceX has granted to Musk, but which haven’t been earned, though it includes options he could exercise shortly.
Musk took home $54,000 in pay last year for his role at SpaceX, but most of his compensation is made up of two massive equity packages, one of which depends on a human colony on Mars. In January, SpaceX gave Musk a package worth one billion class B shares which vest if the company establishes “a permanent human colony on Mars with at least one million inhabitants.” In March, the board granted Musk another 302.1 million shares which vest if the company competes “non-Earth-based data centers,” as well as 12 market capitalization goals that grow the value of the company to $6.6 trillion.

Elon Musk's rocket and satellite maker SpaceX filed on Wednesday for its widely awaited initial public offering, which stands to raise the most ever in an initial offering. "It's a little scary to come in and say, 'Yeah, let's go invest in a $2 trillion company," hoping that they'll reach the stars.

The IPO is expected to raise a record amount of money, valuing Elon Musk’s company at roughly $2 trillion—enough to turn the world’s richest person into a trillionaire.
