Amkor Technology is working with Advanced Micro Devices on packaging AMD's chips, Amkor said on Thursday. Earlier this week, Amkor said it had secured 67 additional acres of land in Arizona next to a 104-acre parcel where it is developing a new campus where it plans to start production in 2028. Modern data center chips such as those from AMD and Nvidia consist of multiple chips packaged together, and those packaging steps have become a key bottleneck in chip production.

Advanced Micro Devices said on Thursday it would invest more than $10 billion across Taiwan's AI ecosystem and widen strategic partnerships as it looks to expand its manufacturing capabilities. The massive gains in chip manufacturers from South Korea to Silicon Valley have hit a volatile stretch. Chip makers, including Intel, Micron and AMD, closed Monday on their worst two-session skid since March, an abrupt halt to a torrid weekslong rally.
Nvidia earnings tend to impact other chip stocks, and this time likely won't be any different. Expectations are incredibly high following several years of massive gains for Nvidia stock. "For NVDA, the focus is typically not whether it beats expectations, but by how much, given it has topped both revenue and earnings estimates for 13 consecutive quarters," Adam Turnquist, chief technical strategist for LPL Financial, wrote on Wednesday.
