$300 billion That's roughly how much market value Broadcom is slated to lose today after its results last night sent its shares sliding 13% premarket. The move underscores the high bar that companies tied to AI are now facing: The semiconductor and software maker logged strong quarterly revenue—fueled by demand for its AI chips—but left its 2027 outlook unchanged, sticking with guidance for AI semiconductor revenue of more than $100 billion.
High-flying tech stocks were struggling on Thursday after Broadcom's so-so revenue guidance failed to impress investors. Futures tracking the Nasdaq 100 were 1.1% lower as the tech-heavy index lagged behind both the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Micron is scheduled to report fiscal third-quarter results on June 24.
The world's most valuable technology companies with the exception of Alphabet added billions of dollars in market value in May, as upbeat earnings outlooks and strong demand for AI chips fuelled a rally in their shares. Apple, memory chipmakers Micron Technology, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix led the gains, adding $598 billion, $512 billion, $481 billion and $377 billion, respectively, in market value. Their valuations rose to $4.58 trillion, $1.09 trillion, $1.10 trillion and $1.34 trillion, respectively.
A BofA analyst says Micron still trades at an attractive valuation with further upside ahead, as surging AI workloads tighten memory supply and keep the industry cycle strong.
