Ryan Cohen passes on GameStop payday to keep pushing one acquisition

GameStop (GME) tried to buy eBay once already, and the answer was no. That rejection would have ended most takeover attempts. Cohen is not backing down. Instead, GameStop spent the following weeks building a bigger position and a stronger balance sheet, the opposite of what a retreat looks like. In ...

GameStop also expects to generate adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of more than $600 million in fiscal ‌2026, compared with $345.4 million reported in fiscal 2025, it said in a regulatory filing.

Analysis-Wall Street awaits GameStop CEO Cohen's next move after eBay rejected takeover bid

GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen shared few details when he said he would do "whatever we need to do" to buy eBay after the e-commerce company rejected his $56 billion unsolicited takeover bid as "neither credible nor attractive." In early May, Cohen offered eBay's board $125 a share as well as his services as CEO. Half the offer was in cash and half in stock, with the cash portion ‌coming from GameStop's $9.4 billion in cash reserves.

GameStop increases stake in eBay to more than 6%

GameStop has increased its stake in eBay to ‌about 6.55%, the videogame retailer ‌disclosed in a filing on Tuesday, days after the e-commerce company rejected its $56 billion takeover bid. GameStop previously owned around a 5% stake in eBay and ‌some analysts said its CEO Ryan Cohen could eventually push for a special shareholder meeting or seek board representation more supportive of his proposal. In an interview with journalist Piers Morgan last ‌week, Cohen had said eBay's board had a responsibility to engage with his offer in the best interests of shareholders, adding that "we'll do ‌whatever we need to do" if it failed to do so.
