What Do The Addiction Lawsuits Mean For Snap (SNAP) Investors?

Snap (NYSE: SNAP) is among several social media platforms now facing thousands of consolidated lawsuits alleging addictive product design targeted at minors. A US federal appeals court rejected the companies' attempt to use Section 230 immunity, allowing the litigation to proceed. The cases raise regulatory and reputational questions for Snap that extend beyond earnings updates or valuation debates. The outcome is expected to shape legal risk for the wider social media sector as similar...

US appeals court allows thousands of lawsuits against social media companies over user addiction claims to proceed

A U.S. appeals court on Monday allowed thousands of lawsuits to move forward against Meta Platforms, Alphabet's Google, ByteDance's TikTok, and other social media companies over claims they designed their products to be addictive to young ‌users. The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the companies’ bid to reverse a lower court’s ruling forcing them to ‌face some 2,400 lawsuits over the claims filed in federal court. The companies, which also include Snap Inc's Snapchat, had argued that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 -  which shields them from lawsuits over content posted by their users - also shields them from allegations that they failed to warn the public about the addictive nature of their platforms.

Teen plaintiff suing Meta over mental health harms drops his claims against company days before trial

A Florida teen dropped his lawsuit on Wednesday against Meta Platforms, canceling a Los Angeles trial over claims the social media company's apps caused his depression and anxiety. The trial, which had been ‌slated to begin on Monday, was expected to be the second trial in thousands of lawsuits that have been ‌consolidated in California state court over claims social media companies designed their platforms to be addictive to children, spurring a youth mental health crisis. The lawsuit, brought by a 15-year-old boy known as R.K.C. who started using social media when he was 8, originally named four defendants: Google's YouTube, Meta's Instagram, Snap Inc's Snapchat and ByteDance's TikTok, but YouTube and TikTok settled in June.

Snap (SNAP) Stock May Be Below Fair Value As Child Safety Lawsuit Looms

Snap stock is caught between a harsh trading history and a more forgiving valuation read, with shares down sharply over several years even as some market multiples now point to potential undervaluation. Snap has declined about 92.6% over the past 5 years, which shows how severely long term holders have been hit despite occasional short term bounces. Recent product updates such as AI powered advertising tools and smart glasses can support growth expectations, while legal and regulatory...

Snap’s Cost Cuts and AR Bet Could Be A Game Changer For Snap (SNAP)

Snap recently reported strong first-quarter 2026 results, with revenue rising 12% year over year, adjusted EBITDA more than doubling, renewed daily active user growth, and a restructuring plan aimed at reducing annualized costs by over US$500 million in the second half of 2026.
