Nvidia has paid several billion dollars to help fund new factories for glassmaker Corning in addition to taking an equity stake of up to $3.2 billion disclosed earlier this week, the CEOs of the two companies confirmed on Thursday. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the AI chip supplier has made "a multi-billion-dollar prepayment" that was not disclosed when it announced an equity investment earlier this week in Corning, whose glass is used in the fiber-optic cables that connect computers in massive data centers. "It's going to create thousands of jobs," Huang said.
Coherent reported quarterly earnings that were in-line with Wall Street’s expectations, with gross margins increasing slightly. The optical networking company is benefiting from the artificial intelligence data center boom—but shares fell anyway. Coherent posted adjusted earnings of $1.41 a share for the fiscal third-quarter, compared to 91 cents a year ago and Wall Street’s $1.40 a share prediction.
Corning struck a $500 million deal with Nvidia to supply components for the artificial intelligence leader's data center build-out.
Corning and Nvidia said on Wednesday they would partner to expand U.S. production of optical connectivity products used in artificial intelligence data centers. The specialty glass maker also raised its long-term sales targets on surging demand for AI infrastructure. The deal shows how the AI boom is lifting demand beyond chips, benefiting suppliers such as Corning that make the fiber-optic equipment needed to move data between thousands of processors in large data centers.
Shares in Corning are trading nearly 20% higher premarket after Nvidia said it would invest $500 million in the glassmaker. The injection is part of a partnership to expand manufacturing of fiber optics, which are used in AI data centers to transfer data quickly and at scale. Demand for fiber optics has supercharged Corning stock in recent months.

There was a lot that could have made the stock market fall. Investors shrugged off questions about when—or even if—the Federal Reserve would cut interest rates again this year after the central bank held rates steady, and they ignored the fact that Jerome Powell plans to stay on the Fed’s Board of Governors even as Kevin Warsh prepares to become chair. Inflation came in hot as oil prices continued to rise, and earnings from Microsoft and Meta Platforms revealed sizable capital spending increases—and resulted in falling stocks. Eli Lilly earnings offered evidence that weight-loss drugs were only getting bigger; Coca-Cola’s beat showed that not all soft-drink makers are suffering from an Ozempic overhang; Alphabet’s capital spending paid off with big profits; and Caterpillar’s numbers demonstrated that there’s more to its business than mining and machinery.
Apple, Sandisk and Roku were key movers after the stock market hit new highs amid huge earnings and lower oil prices.
NTGR beats Q1 EPS and revenue estimates despite a 2% sales dip, as enterprise ProAV switches and recurring subscribers help cushion results.
Corning (GLW) reported Q1 2026 core sales of $4.35 billion, representing an 18% year-over-year increase. The core insight hiding beneath this headline beat is how entirely the AI-driven acceleration is offsetting the more modest growth currently seen in the company's traditional Glass Innovations segment.
Corning (GLW) stock pulled back about 1% after earnings, following a massive run in which shares gained roughly 250% over the past year. The reaction looks odd at first glance because Optical demand tied to AI data centers is accelerating, margins are expanding, and Corning just locked in two new ...
